(Insurance) Picture the scene, it is rush hour on a dark damp winter's evening. It is cold, wet and foggy. The traffic is still hurtling by regardless at high speed. A HGV commercial vehicle driver has a collision with a novice car driver who pulls out without due care and attention, the HGV driver manages to control the vehicle to mount the roadside instead of jack knifing and both drivers are safe. The HGV vehicle, however, is damaged and needs recovering. But that's just the beginning of the story...

In October last year, a family of six died when a lorry crashed into their car on the M6 motorway. This tragic accident was front page news and shocked the nation. It resulted in the 46-year old lorry driver being arrested and eventually charged with six separate counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, each carrying up to 14 years imprisonment.

Over the past 18 months, the Govern-ment has waged a war against bad drivers and, in turn, has forced those that employ drivers to think much more carefully about safety at work, including company vehicles.
