RHA - The Challenge Ahead
As I settle into the hot seat at the head of the RHA, I am under no illusion about the challenges that I and the association face. I take over at a demanding time, as operators feel the pinch of an economic downturn and we have a government that appears to be set against the haulage industry.
Windows of opportunity
The first half of 2009 proved to be a difficult time for companies trading in the freight and logistics sector. Manufacturers and suppliers found customers cutting back on budgets across the board. Amongst the casualties of the economic downturn were a number of high profile trade events, including this year's Commercial Vehicle Show that was scheduled to take place in April at the NEC, Birmingham.
Trailer 2009: the green light for a revival in trade
The thirteenth Trailer trade fair takes place on 20th - 24th November this year. Kortrijk Xpo in Belgium, which has recently been the subject of a major revamp, is again the venue for what will once again be the perfect backdrop for all the latest on trailers, semi-trailers, bodybuilders and all kind of accessories and telematics for transport and logistics. The impact of the financial and economical crisis has left its mark on the transport industry. Yet a few silver linings are being spotted on the horizon.
HPUK goes a deeper shade of green
Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited (HPUK) has pledged to reduce its carbon footprint. The Port of Felixstowe, Harwich International Port and London Thamesport have signed up to the 10:10 initiative; a national drive to cut the UK’s carbon emissions by 10% during 2010.
