Barfleur pressed into service
Customers of Brittany Ferries Freight will greet the 27th February with immense enthusiasm for this is the date that has recently been announced for the return of the ever popular Barfleur into service on its Cherbourg to Poole service.
A combination of schedules specifically tailored for hauliers to meet peak overnight demand from France and a reduced passenger capacity on-board to provide more comfort to the client, have struck a positive chord with the users of this long-standing route.
Consistency is the order of the day with levels of available capacity increased on a route between two specialist freight ports where an abundance of available parking and acceptance of unaccompanied traffic that has been more and more restricted of late on the English Channel generally, is eagerly awaited. With a late morning departure from the UK, the route will hold the levels of appeal that traditionally served the transport industry so well.
The reintroduction of Barfleur on Cherbourg will also free the freight-only vessel Cotentin to operate a second weekly departure from Poole to Santander in Northern Spain. From the end of March 2011, customers will be able to choose from seven weekly return crossings between the UK and Spain: four from Portsmouth, two from Poole and one from Plymouth.
Brittany Ferries views both these recently announced enhancements to their overall offer as part of a continuing strategy to ‘take customers where they wish to go, not where they are told to go’.
