Port Manager appointed to Teignmouth Harbour Commission
Dave Atkin, Port Manager for Associated British Ports’ (ABP) south-west Ports at Teignmouth and Millbay, Plymouth has been appointed a Commissioner of the Teignmouth Harbour Commission (THC), the statutory authority which regulates all marine operations within Teignmouth Harbour.
Speaking about his appointment, which became effective on 1st January, Dave said: “ABP is an integral part of Teignmouth Harbour and I am pleased to be appointed as one of the Commissioners charged with overseeing the safety of this beautiful harbour. Being a manager of the land side and now being directly involved in the management of the water side it will give me a much broader perspective on activities in Teignmouth Harbour.”
Jeremy Grammer, Chairman of the THC, added: “We are delighted that Dave has joined us with his extensive knowledge and experience. He will bring much added strength and capability to the team.”
Dave has been Port Manager for Plymouth and Teignmouth for three years, having previously worked as Head of Operations at ABP’s ports of Grimsby & Immingham. He joined ABP in July 1979 and with over 30 years’ maritime experience will be a valuable asset to the Commission.
The Port of Teignmouth, one of 11 short-sea ports owned and operated by ABP, handles in excess of 700,000 tonnes of cargo annually. It plays a vital role in meeting the import/export requirements of the region’s agricultural and ball clay industries. ABP continues to support the further development of its short-sea ports by way of a targeted investment programme, which has seen over £6 million invested in infrastructure, warehousing and port-handling equipment at Teignmouth over the last four years.
