Customers of rail freight companies believe that there is room for further growth in the rail freight sector despite the current economic climate, according to a new survey published by the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR).

The sale of High Speed 1 (HS1), announced this week by Government, should be an opportunity to promote rail freight on the route.

The latest ORR figures, issued on 24th June, show consumer rail freight is growing and increasing market share despite the recession, through a combination of domestic intermodal and international traffic – which proves that rail is moving out of its traditional markets.
