Glasgow to host European Transport Conference 2010

The European Transport Conference (ETC) is the international networking event for transport professionals to share innovation, best practice and networking.

This year, ETC will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow between 11th and 13th October.  This hotel offers a large venue for the conference in an interesting area of the city, with fast transport links to the centre, and also allowing delegates to arrange accommodation in line with their needs and budget.

The Conference will be a showcase opportunity for Scottish transport planning and operations.  Delegates will receive a complimentary Glasgow travel pass, provided by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, for the duration of the conference.

Glasgow is one of the UK’s most visited cities, is a previous European City of Culture, was designated the UK City of Architecture and Design and hosted the Glasgow Garden Festival,

Now in its 38th year, ETC is unique in Europe, attracting over 500 transport practitioners and researchers from more than 30 countries to one meeting place, where they can find in-depth presentations on policy issues, best practice and research findings across a broad spectrum of transport modes.  The unique feature of ETC is its multi-seminar approach. The structure of the conference embraces a balance of practice and research.

Participants attend from not only Europe, but from most of the Continents.  There are many opportunities to meet with new and old colleagues, and to create new contacts.  Transport Scotland will be the main sponsors for the event with a Scottish theme in particular running through the Wednesday sessions.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Alan McKinnon, Director of the Logistics Research Centre, Heriot-Watt University, UK
  • Mr Zoltán Kazatsay, Deputy Director General, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport BE
  • Sir Moir Lockhead OBE, Chief Executive, FirstGroup and President, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK)
