Rural driving pocket guide published
Freight Best Practice Scotland has published a new, FREE Rural Driving Guide, which gives best practice advice on how to plan for more efficient and safer journeys within rural areas. The publication is also available to operators in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
The Pocket Guide which has been endorsed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), has been specifically designed for lorry drivers and gives tips, guidance and facts to help improve safety, as well as helping save fuel and therefore money.
Driving through rural areas will often involve driving on narrow roads which can change in nature over a very short distance, often with very little notice. This may result in a HGV unexpectedly driving along inappropriate and unfamiliar routes. This Pocket Guide outlines steps to help drivers ensure their own safety and that of other road users. It offers advice to drivers on what they should look out for while planning and driving in a rural area including:
- The correct use of navigation systems.
- How to take full account of the height, weight and width of a vehicle.
- Minimising intrusion and environmental impact.
- Vulnerable road users and parking.
Like all Freight Best Practice publications, the Rural Driving Guide is completely free of charge and can be downloaded from www.freightbestpractice.org.uk/scotland or by calling the Hotline on 0300 123 1250
