RFG’s Spring Meeting set for Multimodal 2016

For the last few years, Rail Freight Group (RFG) has used the opportunity of the annual Multimodal exhibition to hold its Spring Meeting.  This year the meeting will take place on Tuesday afternoon (10 May) and will focus on the key role of rail freight in supporting the ports and logistics sector, and how and where technology is helping the development of rail freight.

Speakers will discuss how advanced technology is transforming the logistics of ports and rail, and how technology transfer and new products can improve rail freight’s efficiency.  Attendees will also hear about the latest innovation in rolling stock and how new operators can bring innovation into service delivery.

People who are interested in attending the meeting should contact RFG at Stand 678 on the morning of 10 May or go via http://www.rfg.org.uk/rfg-group-meeting-multimodal-2016. Entry is free and open to anyone who registers.

“We find that many of our members involved in the intermodal market are thinking about attending Multimodal, so it makes sense to hold our Spring Meeting at the same time,” says Maggie Simpson, RFG’s Executive Director.

“Many of the exhibitors, such as the shipping lines and freight forwarders, are customers of the rail freight industry and it is a good opportunity for networking.”

RFG works to help its members investigate and learn more about new markets, especially now that some of the main traditional markets such as coal and steel are in serious decline.

At the recent Scottish Meeting, participants discussed the potential for increasing the use of rail in the timber and paper markets and RFG has recently held a seminar focussing on the automotive market. It also has formed a partnership with the Mineral Products Association to promote the use of rail in the construction industry.

Rail Freight Group is the leading representative body for rail freight in the UK, with a membership which includes some of the biggest names in logistics along with many smaller companies, all of whom contribute to the success of rail freight.

RFG members include rail freight operators, ports, freight forwarders, terminal operators, property developers, equipment suppliers and support services.
