ICE launches Infrastructure Transformation ideas hub

A new thought leadership hub has been launched by the Institution of Civil Engineers to help professionals collaborate on some important trends that are transforming how infrastructure is designed, built and operated.

Accessible for free, the Information Transformation features expert blogs, project case studies, events, videos and other online content. It focuses on four key issues that could transform the infrastructure industry in the next decade:

  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Artificial intelligence
  • ‘agile infrastructure’ that can flex rapidly to meet changing demands
  • Changing skills demands created by these developments

Nathan Baker, ICE director of engineering knowledge, said: “The infrastructure world is on the cusp of a major transformation.  The growth in computing power, digitisation and use of real-time data is revolutionising the way society accesses and uses infrastructure. Both traditional civil engineering firms and new entrants from the information technology sector are finding new innovative ways to meet the growing demand for smarter infrastructure.

“More than ever, we need to champion the role of creating high quality infrastructure services and systems management over simply delivering more major projects. With support from Topcon and Autodesk, the Infrastructure Transformation hub will help the construction industry understand what society needs from its infrastructure in the decades to come.”
