Police issue warning to lorry drivers

Police in Warwickshire have issued a warning to lorry drivers following a spike in crimes targeting HGVs in the county and across the wider region.

A police spokeman confirmed there were a number of HGV theft 'hotspots' in the county where lorries and their loads had been targeted over the past few months.

A police operation is currently underway to try and tackle the problem.

Police are offering the following advice to lorry drivers:

• When you are out of the vehicle lock your cab and take your keys with you.

• Park in areas covered by CCTV, which are well lit, or can be seen from a security office.

• Never discuss your load.

• Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and immediately report it to police.

Detective Inspector Dave Andrews said: "We have a proactive operation in place to identify those responsible for these offences and disrupt their activity.

"Parking in dark and secluded areas increases the chances of falling victim to crime. It is important that HGV drivers take precautions to limit their chances of falling victim to crime."
