RHA recruits Karren Brady as guest speaker for Annual Lunch
At a time when the Road Haulage Association (RHA) is actively promoting the industry as a career option for women with its new initiative, She’s RHA, it has announced that this year's keynote speaker at its Annual Lunch will be Baroness Karren Brady CBE, one of the UK’s most high-profile businesswomen.
Tickets are selling fast for the event which takes place on Thursday 2 June at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The gathering has become recognised as the perfect opportunity for members to entertain clients, meet old friends and network with other members. It’s also a good chance to catch-up with RHA staff and key industry figures.
Known to millions through her role as one of Lord Alan Sugar’s assistants on BBC’s The Apprentice, Karren is among the ‘50 most inspirational people in the world’ and this, together with her natural wit, honest and down-to-earth approach, has made her one of the world’s most sought-after speakers.
As Britain’s ‘First Lady of Football’, she is currently vice-chairman of West Ham United FC. However, her background in the business side of the beautiful game goes back a long way. At 23, she was appointed managing director of then-ailing Birmingham City football club and in four years, turned the club’s fortunes around and floated it on the UK stock exchange, becoming the youngest ever managing director to do so.
Outside of the world of football world, she sits on the boards of several companies as well as acting as the government’s Small Business Ambassador.
Awarded a CBE in 2013 and elevated to the House of Lords by the Prime Minister in 2014, Karren is also a four-times-published author and columnist. A keen charity supporter, she is patron of both The Stroke Association and Teenage Cancer Trust. In 2013, she was involved in setting up the LifeSkills programme, which helps bridge the gap between school and work for thousands of young people. She also chairs the LifeSkills Advisory Council.
