Baxter Freight celebrates £50 million turnover milestone

International logistics firm Baxter Freight - which has recently achieved an all-time turnover of more than £50 million as it celebrates its fifth anniversary of trading - has made a strategic new appointment in line with its growth plans.

Nick Gretton – a chartered accountant with many years’ experience as finance director across a range of sectors – has joined the customer service-driven freight firm, which is based in Nottingham, as finance director. 

Europa launches programme to nurture future leaders straight from school

Freight forwarder Europa Worldwide Group has launched an innovative recruitment programme.

Europa's new Rapid Career Development Programme (RCDP) has been created to recruit 30 passionate people straight from school this year.

The first successful candidate to secure a job at the business’s Nottingham Europa Road branch is 18-year-old Max Holbrook (pictured above, inset). Max excelled through a rigorous application process which involved a written application, submission of his final school report and predicted A-Level grades as well as a one-on-one half an hour interview.

DSV hosts series of Brexit briefings

With the UK Government unable to reach an agreement with parliament for the withdrawal from the European Union, transport and logistics group DSV is holding a series of Brexit seminars to help its clients prepare for the possibility of a no-deal Brexit.

The free-to-attend briefings are being held in hotels and conference suites throughout the UK. DSV initially planned for them to be hosted in DSV locations, but the response was overwhelming so further planning was needed to accommodate more than 1,000 delegates that signed up to attend.  

Descartes helps Maskworld keep pace with peak season spikes

Red Funnel launches first dedicated RoRo vessel

The latest ship in the fleet of Red Funnel, the original Isle of Wight ferry provider, has been launched from the famous Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead.

Red Kestrel, a new freight-only vessel, will operate between Southampton and Isle of Wight when it enters service in May. The launch marked the debut of Red Funnel's first dedicated RoRo freight ship since the company’s inception almost 200 years ago.

The £10 million vessel highlights Red Funnel’s commitment to British shipbuilding and engineering, building on its history of investing in UK shipyards.

Baxter Freight granted AEO status

Nottingham-based logistics firm Baxter Freight has been granted Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status – the internationally recognised supply chain quality mark. 

AEO status means that a company’s customs controls and supply chain security procedures have been judged by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to be highly efficient, compliant and meet UK, EU and international best practice. At present, there are more than 15,000 AEO accredited organisations within the European Union, yet only around 650 are in the UK.

Irish Ferries invests in Ulysses upgrade

Irish Ferries freight and tourism vessel MV Ulysses has resumed service on the Dublin to Holyhead route following a €4million dry dock upgrade at Cammell Laird shipyard in Merseyside.

The four week, €4million refurbishment and maintenance programme included new propellers and rudder components, a full refurbishment of her stern thruster and other underwater works plus engine overhauls and vehicle deck painting.  

Registration opens for IMHX 2019

Talent in Logistics and UniCarriers UK to host Forklift Operator Challenge at IMHX

Talent in Logistics – working in partnership with UniCarriers UK – will use the IMHX exhibition to host their first ever live Forklift Operator Challenge. 

Visitors to stand 6B190 will go head-to-head with a skilled opponent, and compete against them by demonstrating a high level of skill and accuracy. Nominees must be a qualified counterbalance lift truck operator and proof will need to be provided on the day in order to take part. 

Dyce Carriers announces expansion into Central Belt

Aberdeen-based road transport operator, Dyce Carriers Ltd is further expanding into the Central Belt of Scotland with a new facility opening in Grangemouth. 

Established in 1973, Dyce Carriers has grown to become a national road transport business with more than 100 employees and a fleet of around 80 HGV vehicles across four facilities in Aberdeen, Dalgety Bay in Fife, Poole in Dorset and the newly opened Grangemouth site.
