Global aviation services specialist Menzies Aviation has acquired a 51% shareholding in Royal Airport Services (RAS), a leading aviation services business based in Pakistan.  

Tuffnells returns to profit six months after MBO

Following its return to private ownership in May 2020, Sheffield-based Tuffnells has made significant improvements to encourage ongoing growth of the business.

Since the management buy-out in May 2020, much has changed at the carrier company; after witnessing substantial financial losses in recent years, in just six months the business has returned to profit. Dozens of new jobs have been created and investment has been made into an improved, streamlined and more efficient service, supported by two new vibrant customer experience contact centres.

Stena Line takes delivery of third new ferry to join Irish Sea fleet in 2020

Swedish ferry company Stena Line has officially taken ownership of its newest ferry, Stena Embla, following a handover ceremony in Weihai, China.

The vessel is the third of five new next-generation E-Flexer RoPax vessels that are being constructed at the CMI Jinling Weihai Shipyard, as part of an extensive modernisation of the company’s fleet. It is last of three new vessels due for the Irish Sea, which marks the end of a seven-year development programme totalling a £400 million investment in new ferries and port infrastructure in the region

Davies Turner promotes Tony Cole to Head of Ocean

Davies Turner has promoted Tony Cole to Head of Ocean to lead on its ocean freight forwarding services, building on his previous positions within the company.

Mr Cole replaces existing Head of Ocean, Kieron Larkin who is to lead a strategic review of the company’s computer systems and software that will underpin all its freight forwarding services. Both appointments took effect at the beginning of November.

Mr Cole joined Davies Turner in 1990 as ocean import manager and subsequent positions have also seen him head up the company’s Far East ocean freight trade lanes.

Mentor gains AITT Excellence status

The Association of Industrial Truck Trainers (AITT) has awarded Mentor FLT Training with the coveted AITT Excellence status, following its latest training standards audit.

With all of Mentor’s forklift training courses accredited by AITT, the training provider is subject to regular reviews, but Excellence status is reserved for those deemed to ‘go above and beyond the normal industry requirements’.

Europa recruits its 1,000th employee

Independent logistics operator Europa Worldwide Group has reached a key milestone with the recruitment of it latest employee.

Caolan Watts-Adams (pictured above), Europa’s official 1,000th employee is a Customs Declarant, within the newly created Customs Department based at the heart of the company, at its 1Hub in Dartford. The new team has been developed as part of the logistics firms’ Brexit preparations, with 16 people so far employed to manage the import customs clearance process for consignments arriving from the EU post 1st January 2021.

DSV launches unaccompanied trailer service between UK and Europe

Global logistics business DSV has announced the launch of its full load unaccompanied trailer service to and from Germany, Central and Eastern Europe.  

The service will ship via Immingham to Rotterdam. The haulage operation both in the UK and within Europe will be provided by its own fleet of tractor units. The import flows operate in reverse. 

The service will be launched in phases, predominantly covering full load movements in phase one with part load and groupage solutions being offered in phase two.

Freight keeps rolling for Brittany Ferries
