Registration opens for IMHX 2019

Visitor registration is now open for the UK’s biggest event for intralogistics and supply chain solutions. Held at the NEC, Birmingham between 24 – 27 September, IMHX will welcome thousands from the logistics sector.

With some 400 leading companies exhibiting, including Dematic, Swisslog, Knapp, Vanderlande, Toyota, Crown, Doosan and Hyster-Yale, visitors to IMHX 2019 will see live and dynamic demonstrations of the latest technological developments that are shaping the modern logistics industry.

Talent in Logistics and UniCarriers UK to host Forklift Operator Challenge at IMHX

Talent in Logistics – working in partnership with UniCarriers UK – will use the IMHX exhibition to host their first ever live Forklift Operator Challenge. 

Visitors to stand 6B190 will go head-to-head with a skilled opponent, and compete against them by demonstrating a high level of skill and accuracy. Nominees must be a qualified counterbalance lift truck operator and proof will need to be provided on the day in order to take part. 

Dyce Carriers announces expansion into Central Belt

Aberdeen-based road transport operator, Dyce Carriers Ltd is further expanding into the Central Belt of Scotland with a new facility opening in Grangemouth. 

Established in 1973, Dyce Carriers has grown to become a national road transport business with more than 100 employees and a fleet of around 80 HGV vehicles across four facilities in Aberdeen, Dalgety Bay in Fife, Poole in Dorset and the newly opened Grangemouth site. 

RTITB launches counterterrorism course

In response to the recent terror attacks that have seen vehicles used as weapons across the UK and Europe, RTITB has launched a new Master Driver CPC course, Counterterrorism Measures for the Professional LGV Driver.

Freightliner signs new haulage contract with Mendip Rail

Freightliner has signed a long-term, bulk rail-haulage contract with Mendip Rail Ltd, a joint venture between two of the UK’s largest aggregate/cement producers, Hanson Aggregates and Aggregate Industries (AI).

Under the new contract, commencing in November 2019, Freightliner will haul an expected eight million tons per year (approximately 107,000 annual wagon-loads) of aggregate to terminals in London and the Southeast of England from quarries owned by Hanson and AI in the Mendips, Northern Somerset. 

Eddie Stobart covers 300,000 miles to deliver half a million Christmas trees

Transport and logistics company Eddie Stobart has notched up more than 300,000 miles to deliver over half a million Christmas trees for Christmas tree provider Needlefresh. 

Work to deliver such a large quantity of Christmas trees started back in April with final orders completed by early November. From the moment the tree is cut, to when it is delivered, takes no longer than seven days and this effort requires staff at every stage – from picking and packing the trees to delivering them to major retailers around the UK. 

Warehouse solution for food packaging makes the grade on the farm

Portable building specialist Rubb has designed, manufactured and delivered a warehouse storage facility for racking and food packaging at a farm in Oxfordshire.
The 25m span x 35m long fabric clad warehouse features a sidewall height of 6m and one electrically operated roller shutter door in the front gable.
The BVR-type structure is constructed with a post-production, hot dip galvanized steel frame and covered with dark green, durable, architectural fabric cladding.

Descartes presents solutions to key logistics challenges

Descartes Systems UK recently welcomed 135 logistics professionals to its UK Customer and Partner event.
Held at the RAF Museum in London, the agenda for the day focused on overcoming challenges and taking advantage of opportunities in logistics.
Speakers at the event included representatives from True Heroes Racing, Boots UK, Vigilant Global Trade Services, Staples Vegetables Ltd and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Eddie Stobart cements partnership with Tarmac

Transport and logistics firm Eddie Stobart has been awarded a five-year contract by building materials company Tarmac. 
The new contract, which began at the beginning of December, will enable Tarmac to restructure its Cement and Lime business from a national to a regional transport setup for cement hauliers.

Liebherr opens £26 million R&D centre

Material handling equipment manufacturer Liebherr has opened a new £26 million R&D centre in Germany.

The centre, at the company’s Kirchdorf factory in Germany, will be used to develop and test new construction and material handling machines, including those destined for the UK market. 

The 12.7 hectares site comprises a testing hall, demonstration area and 1.2km test track where operational environments can be simulated.
